Church History

The Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Fairfax, Virginia was organized on May 15, 1870. This Church tA blue square with the letter v on it.races its origin to a few Christian men and women who settled in and around the Fairfax County Court House after the Civil War. It was these pioneers who formed an organization for the purpose of soliciting funds to build a church. Some of the most prominent workers among this group were the late brethren Louis Thompson, John Jackson, Strother Gibson, Martin Mellontree, Louis Jackson and many others.

The brethren mentioned above were the trustees who purchased the land from the late Beecher Campbell and his wife. These trustees supervised and constructed the church, which they named Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. This church was situated on state road #123, about three blocks from the Fairfax County Court House. The last service in this church was held on April 14, 1957.
