Minister Joe W. Ellis


A blue square with the letter v on it.Minister Joe W. Ellis was born in Twin City, GA., to Ruthie Ellis and Thomas Turner.  He is the oldest of five Siblings. His father was a Baptist Pastor in Yonkers NY.

Min. Ellis graduated from Dillard High in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; from the Breckingridge Job Corps Center in Morganfield, Kentucky, and received his BS from Trinity College and University in Computer Science with Distinction.

He retired from a 20-year career in the U.S. Army and completed a 20-year career as a Federal employee with the U.S. Department of State in 2011.  He currently works as a Government Contractor with the U.S. Department of State.

Min. Ellis began his Christian journey many years ago and continues to serve God in whatever capacity he can. He completed the Evangel Cathedral Bible School two-year Christian Ministries program and was licensed as a minister in December 2010 by Bishop George Rodgers, Lively Stones Ministries, Waldorf, MD.  In 2014, he joined the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and serves as an Associate Minister. He also teaches Sunday School and is a member of both the Senior and Men’s Choirs.

On July 4, 2014, he and Dr. Esther R.  Johnson-Ellis were married. Their blended family includes two sons, Byron and Maurice and one daughter, Valda.  They have eight grandchildren—Jeffery, Bryce, Christian, Maurice, Tristin, Aurielle, Colbi and Margaret.

Min. Ellis’s motto is, “I’ve had some good days, I’ve had some bad days, I’ve even had some hills to climb. I’ve had some weary days and many a sleepless night. But when I look around and think things over, all of my good days outweigh my bad days; I won’t complain.â€
