The Trustee Ministry: The Keepers of Mount Calvary Baptist Church
The Biblical reference for this ministry is 1 Peter 4:10, “As every man hath received a gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.â€
In 1870, the first Trustees of Mt. Calvary were the late brethren: Louis Thompson, John Jackson, Strother Gibson, Martin Mellontree and Louis Jackson. They purchased land from the late Beecher Campbell and his wife. These trustees supervised the construction of the church and when it was finished, they named it Mount Calvary Baptist Church. The MCBC Trustee Ministry represents and acts in the best interest of the members to assure continuation and protection of the Mount Calvary Baptist Church’s assets and property.
The Trustee Ministry is responsible for maintaining the incorporation of the church with the state of Virginia, holding in trust all property of the church, representing the church in legal matters as the church’s appointed representative, developing the church’s operating budget, and establishing and maintaining the church’s finances and financial system.
